The camp experience makes communication essential, abstract concepts learned in textbooks and classrooms are left behind. Campers discover the significance of understanding, listening, and connecting. Expression can be mime, humour, and spanglish – all driven by the desire to share with fellow campers.
An established problem, like trying to learn English or Spanish in the classroom suddenly becomes something totally different. Learning in nature is alive and refreshing. There is no moment to worry about how to say something because it is natural. Learners feel safe and challenged at the same time.
This makes for a transformational learning environment.
The kids learn from each other, they associate Spanish/English with good times and that sets up a lifelong foundation on which to build their language. Once they love it there is no turning back.
Our camp experience makes languages a real thing, no longer something abstract that is learnt from a textbook, a classroom or a movie. The campers learn to see how useful it really is to understand, to look at the context, to listen and connect. They realise how they can actually express themselves using all the tools they already have in their toolkit: mime, humour, through objects, using the grammar and vocab they have, and building on it – and because they want to share their experience with the other campers.

Our methodology
The 4 Elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire.
Our methodology has something of the Montessori philosophy in it. The participant is provided with a setting that has been considerately designed. Like finding a set of crayons and paper in an empty room, laid out on a table with good light, a vase of fresh flowers and a view over a valley. If someone has time, is feeling comfortable and happy – what might the outcome be?
At 4 Elements, these situations are played out through the ever present 4 Elements.:
No day has no wind, no sun, no rain or no ground beneath the feet.
These are ever changing constants and the source of an infinity of inspirations.
EARTH is solid & nurturing
WATER is fluid & playful
AIR is fresh & freeing
FIRE is warming & encouraging & a spark that unites them all
All of them are that and SO MUCH MORE.
The elements thus make for an incredible basis for experiencial learning, providing constance, inspiration and at the same time wonder.
When you leave 4 Elements Galicia you take that connection with you, out into your everyday life.
Lead out into nature. Teach them on the hilltops and in the valleys. There, they will listen better ...and the sense of FREEDOM will give them STRENGTH to overcome difficulties.
